National Gambling Authority of France

Online gambling found its way into the French jurisdiction about 11 years ago (2010 to be exact). That was following the enactment of the so-called French Gambling Act, which also gave way to the establishment of the Autorité de Régulation des Jeux en Ligne (ARJEL), whose mandate was regulation of the online gambling industry in France. This body, however, folded in 2020.

In its place came the Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), or the National Gambling Authority of France, which is now (as of 2021) the official authority regulating gambling in the country. However, unlike its forerunner, which controlled only 11% of the French gambling market, ANJ stamps its power on a whopping 78% or so of the gambling market in the country.
